I attended the Sunshine state conference that was held by Florida Association of Nurse Practitioners (FLANP) in collaboration Volusia Flagler Advanced Practice Nurse Council.

The conference was held on August 8, 2014 at Daytona Beach Resort and Conference Center located in North Atlantic Avenue. Rep Cary Pigman was the special guest speaker while Dr. Mai Kung was the key note speaker. One of the themes of the conference was to propose solutions to the problem of shortage of physicians involved in the primary care practice in Florida. The second theme was to examine the development in the regulation of advanced nursing practice. The last theme was to give a summary of the summit that was held in 2013 by Florida TaxWatch Center for Health and Aging (FLANP, 2014).

One of my positive experiences during the conference was a chance to interact with many knowledgeable and experienced health professionals from Florida. During breaks, we discussed different issues, including the solutions to some of the challenges that we face in the profession. Secondly, I appreciated my contribution to the seminar. I proposed a solution to the problem of shortage of physicians, and it was recognized as one of the best solutions. In fact, Rep. Pigman promised to include it in his list. My negative experiences were lack of enough hot food and poor air circulation due to overcrowding.

One of the important points gained that is applicable in the clinical practice is the need to use evidence-based research to improve patient care. Secondly, I learned the importance of adhering to the nursing standards and regulations when dealing with medications in enhancing patient-care (FLANP, 2014). Lastly, the speakers reiterated a message highlighted by Altman (2009) regarding the need to give healthcare services to all people in need without discriminating them based on grounds such as race, ethnicity, social status and age.
